Key to the natural look If you want to achieve the natural look, we recommend the latest technique in hair transplantation, based on “nature’s way”, the follicular unit. The second key fact is the size of the grafts that we use. We do not use the larger grafts, known as “plugs”, as experience has shown that these result in an unnatural appearance commonly referred to as “rows of corn”, or “dolls-hair”. By using sophisticated microscopes (see image below), we can transplant follicular units, which are clusters of one to four hairs. Nature grows your hair in these small follicular units, so that is the way we choose to transplant them. That is nature’s way, and that is also why this method produces the most natural-looking result.
The natural hairline
The natural hairline is an irregular zone with a soft transition from forehead through sparse, fine hairs to the thicker denser hairs approximately 10 to 15mm behind the front hairline. For many patients, the natural appearance of the front hairline is the single biggest factor in determining the success of the procedure.
Illustration 1.1 Dr. Sundarason has performed many thousands of procedures on the front hairlines of men and women. He has spent many years practicing and refining the procedures that make a truly great hairline, one that doesn’t attract a second glance.
